Background

Robert Leeds Structural Design has been established next year 2003 for 25 years.

The practice was formed by Robert in 1978 and has been in continuos operation from that date.

The practice deals with all aspects of structural design for the building and civil engineering industry.

Based in north east Essex at Frinton-on-Sea the practice is well situated to the major development areas in the south east and London.

With the development of brown field sites, more developments require special engineering solutions especially with regard to foundation designs. Robert Leeds has been designing special foundations for domestic, commercial and industrial developments for the past 25 years and has a wealth of local knowledge and experience of East Anglia.

Robert has worked overseas on marine projects as an underwater inspector and the experience obtained has been useful in mainly marine and foreshore constructions he has designed for the RNLI and local authorities.

The practice undertakes simple structural alterations for domestic clients requiring a single support steel to complex 3-dimensional framed structures for institutes and industrial premises such as schools and factories.

Large refurbishments projects are also designed for developers such as old maltings and disused areas which are converted into very attractive dwellings.

The practice works closely with local and national architects to develop innovative design solutions being intimately involved in the planning stage of the schemes.

The practice is also involved in the design of underwater vehicles, Robert being the managing director of Subeo Ltd a company formed to develop a small underwater 'sports car', see Subeo.com. The prototype vehicle and production model are at present being evaluated in France by Ifremer www.ifremer.fr the cost of the testing being paid for by the European Community.

With up to date structural design packages and full CAD design software including solid 3-D model and finite elements analysis, the scope of design projects that can be undertaken is diverse and varied and covers the design of all engineering materials to present day codes and standards, including timber, masonry, concrete, steelwork and composite.

Full contract packages including specifications and contract supervision are provided on larger projects.
